Plainville Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts taken from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make wonderful partners in healing! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties tackle issues with a variety of health conditions, many that Layden Chiropractic knows bother our Plainville chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine esteems frankincense and myrrh for their extensively positive health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are parts of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with the latest research showing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By regulating pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that support tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was weakend with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh combo is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Layden Chiropractic appreciates combinations of treatments to help our Plainville chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a serious problem of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease, by controlling pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as being able to stimulate blood and disperse blood stasis. It was put to the test and found to ease neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Layden Chiropractic knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to share the whole picture if only to get to the point that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
